TIGG Corporation Meets Methyl Bromide Recapture Standards Established by USA-QPS

Pittsburgh, PA- December 8- TIGG Corporation is pleased to announce that the TIGG Methyl Bromide Recapture System meets and in some installations exceeds the specification set by the USDA-APHIS.

For several years, the USDA-ARS has directed research toward the development of methyl bromide alternatives and methyl bromide recapture systems. Recently, the “Methyl Bromide Quarantine and Preshipment Interim National Management Strategy” was presented by the United States at the Twenty-first Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer in early November 2009. The Management Strategy, on the United Nations Environment Programme website, gives USDA-APHIS requirements for methyl bromide recapture systems.

The TIGG Methyl Bromide Recapture System complies with these requirements by reducing emissions by at least 80%, retaining approved fumigation and aeration times mandated by the PPQ treatment manual and reducing the methyl bromide concentration in emissions to under 500 ppm.

TIGG Corporation engineered and manufactured the TIGG Methyl Bromide Recapture System through a cooperative program between GFK Consulting LTD, USDA-ARS and Great Lakes Corporation (now Chemtura). During development, the Methyl Bromide Recapture System was proven in laboratory and pilot scale tests and has since operated successfully in commercial installations throughout the United States.

Current commercial installations in the United States include the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport, GW Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, a cargo facility in Mississippi and a major California packer and shipper for air-freighting berries to Japan.

NOVEMBER 2009
TIGG Corporation Announces Successful Completion of West Monroe, LA Contract

West Monroe, LA–TIGG Corporation was awarded the contract for the West Monroe Municipal Water Treatment System Upgrade, valued in excess of $500,000. This milestone project for TIGG signifies entry into a new market as well as establishing new capabilities for steel tank and pressure vessel fabrication.

After a detailed assessment conducted by local authorities, the City of West Monroe, Louisiana upgraded its municipal drinking water facility to accommodate a growing population and to meet drinking water standards for color. TIGG designed, fabricated and assembled a complete multi-media filtration system to remove treatment solids and to process a flow of 1.7- 2.6 million gallons/day. The system consists of five separate 150 psi vessels, a carbon steel pipe rack (including interconnecting piping for influent, effluent and backwash flows), and automated (air actuated) valves to allow forward and backwash flows through the system.

TIGG put their manufacturing capabilities to the test with the West Monroe Municipal Job. For the first time, they produced 10 ft diameter steel pressure vessels at their ASME code shop in Heber Springs, AR. “We’ve grown comfortable with manufacturing pressure vessels up to eight feet in diameter, but this is the first time we accepted the challenge of fabricating 10 ft diameter tanks. We were all pleased with the results and the opportunity to demonstrate our growing fabrication capabilities,” commented Georgiana Riley, President of TIGG Corporation.

TIGG Corporation has been engineering and manufacturing steel tanks and pressure vessels as adsorbers and filters for over 30 years. Building on this experience they are now offering to build these units to customer specifications for a wide range of applications.
